Joseph Burr Tyrrell found the first dinosaur, 70 million year old Albertosaurus while surveying coal deposits. The Royal Tyrell Museum was opened in 1985 and is the only museum in Canada devoted to 4.5 billion years of the Earths history. Visitors to the museum can experience the course of evaluation through displays of dinosaurs and fossils. The most popular part of the museum is the Dinosaur Hall where a T-rex towers over a display of some 35 complete dinosaur skeletons.
The museum organizes dinosaur digs from 2 hours to a week long which helps uncover fossils and dinosaur bones for the museum. Contact the museum if you would like to attend a dinosaur dig in the badlands surrounding Drumheller.
