The Very Best of Vancouver
By J. A. Young

The city of Vancouver on Canada’s West Coast always ranks among the best cities to live so it is not surprising that it is also one of the most fascinating and enjoyable cities to visit in North America.  Vancouver’s breathtaking location is only one facet of this city’s appeal; Vancouver has many cultural attractions, outdoor activities and spectacular hotels and restaurants that lure travelers from all over.

Vancouver boasts a wide array of museums and art galleries that have received international acclaim. The Vancouver Museum is home to both permanent and traveling exhibits that trace the history of the city.  The UBC Museum of Anthropology overlooks Burrard Harbor and contains more than 500,000 anthropological and archaeological relics.  The Vancouver Art Gallery is home for the works of many of British Columbia’s finest artists.  Other museums of note include the Granville Island Museums (Sport Fishing Museum, Model Train Museum and Model Ship Museum), Inuit Gallery, the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame and the Chinese Cultural Centre Museum and Archives.

Outdoor enthusiasts traveling to Vancouver will marvel at the attractions of Vancouver Island and Long Beach.  The city also offers many parks that should not be missed.  The Pacific Spirit Regional Park located on the west side of the city boasts trails, bluffs, beaches and bogs.  Other parks of note include Queen Elizabeth Park and its lovely rose garden, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, and the VanDusen Botanical Garden.  Be sure to take a look at English Bay as well as Lighthouse Park.  Grouse Mountain will give visitors some spectacular views of the city.

For relaxation, visit one of Vancouver’s many spas and health resorts such as Willow Stream Spa, Vida or Silk Road Spa.  Vancouver’s spas offer such body treatments as ancient Thai massage, chocolate hand treatment, seaweed wraps, and hot stone massage.  After enjoying these rejuvenating therapies, be sure to sample some of Vancouver’s fine cuisine at popular restaurants like Blue Water Café and Raw Bar, Diva at the Met, and Provence Marinaside.

When it comes to entertainment Vancouver offers the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and Vancouver Playhouse, the Commodore Ballroom and the Chan Centre for Performing Arts.  The famous Orpheum Theatre is an architectural testament to Baroque splendor and should be included on any travel itinerary.

Other famous Vancouver attractions not to be overlooked include Robson Street, Christ Church Cathedral, Library Square, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, Pacific Centre, Vancouver Aquarium, False Creek Seawalk and Granville Island.  Make Vancouver your travel destination for these and so many more excellent sites to see.
