Travel Montreal Quebec

A shopping city - Every city has its popular shopping districts. The place to go in downtown Montreal is famous Rue St. Catherines. You should also know that underneath much of the central area of this strip (between Stanley and Aylmer are interconnected underground shopping malls.

Montreal shares a 50 km long island in the St. Lawrence River with the 28 other municipalities that make up the Montreal Urban Community.
The city core lies between Mont-Royal and the river, and street follow a fairly consistent grid pattern, with Boulevard Saint-Laurent, know as
The Main, splitting the city into its western and eastern halves.  Montreal is a large city but getting around is easy.

The Montreal Olympic Park was built for the 1976 Olympic Games.   The Olympic Stadium has seating for 56,000 and is used for major league baseball, concerts and exhibitions.  In the above pictures overlooking the stadium is The Montreal Tower 175 meters.  You can take in a tour in the cable car which moves up the tower.  There are viewing decks in the tower which provide you with stunning views of Montreal.   The Olympic Park is home to the Biodome which displays various climate zones like the Arctic Polar World, Tropical Rainforest, the Laurentian Forest, St. Lawrence Marine Ecosystem. Montréal Science Centre - Located at the King-Edward Pier Old Montréal, Saint-Laurent Boulevard and de la Commune Street.  Totally stimulating experience with something for everyone including: Ice age mammals, technological windows, interactive movie games, technocity, Eureka, Dynamo's Lair, Imax and more.

Underground City - When Montreal opened its first metro lines in 1966, it inadvertently created a whole new layer of urban life.  It is theoretically possible to lead a rich life in Montreal without once stepping outside.  The first metro stations had underground links to just the two main train stations, a few hotels, and the shopping mall under the Place Ville-Marie office tower.  This has turned into a vast network of over 30 km’s of well lit, boutique-lined passages that includes more than 1,600 shops, 200 restaurants, hotels, film theaters and concert halls.

Musée d'Art Contemporain - Opened in 1964 is the only institution in Canada dedicated exclusively to modern art.  Located downtown Montreal, more than 60 percent of the approximately 6,000 paintings, drawings, photographs, videos, and installations in the permanent collection are by Quebec artists.  Located 185 Ste. McCord Museum of Canadian History - Lawyer David Ross McCord was an avid collector of virtually everything that had to do with life in Canada including porcelain, paintings, jewelry, furniture, photographs. In 1919, he gave his considerable acquisitions to McGill University with a view to establishing a museum of Canadian social history.  That collection now more than 90,000 artifacts, is housed in a stately limestone building that was once a social center for McGill students.  Collections include early history, exceptional folk art, Indian and Inuit items features clothing, weapons, jewelry, furs and pottery.  The museum has a collection of over 700,000 photographs that detail daily life in the 19th century Montreal.

Musée des Beaux Arts - Is the oldest and largest art collection in Quebec and is housed in two dramatically different building that face each other across Rue Sherbrooke. On the north side is the Benaiah Gibb Pavilion with white marble pillars; on the south side is the huge concrete arch and tilting glass from of the Jean-Noël Desmarais Pavilion. Collections of art from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, especially the Renaissance, artifacts including Roman vases and Chinese incense boxes, Inuit art, furniture and more.
